GMR Welcomes DeVona Wright Cottrell

New chief legal officer will serve as the agency's key corporate legal advisor

GMR hired DeVona Wright Cottrell as chief legal officer and general counsel. An exceptionally strong addition to GMR, DeVona is a skilled attorney, results-oriented problem solver, and a passionate leader and mentor. As GMR’s chief legal officer and general counsel, DeVona will serve as the agency’s key corporate legal advisor, oversee the agency’s legal and risk management teams, and act as a partner to agency leadership.

“We’re excited to welcome DeVona to the GMR family. Not only does her prior experience make her an excellent candidate, but her commitment to mentorship and activity in the local community make her a great addition to the agency,” said Lisa Cieslak, CFO and chief business operations officer at GMR Marketing.

DeVona comes to GMR from Robert W. Baird & Co., where she served as director and associate general counsel, having overseen a wide variety of business and legal functions since she started there in 2007. Her accolades in the past few years alone include the 2020 Mentor Award from TEMPO Milwaukee, 2019 Women of Distinction from Milwaukee Magazine, 2019 Best Assistant General Counsel from Milwaukee Business Journal, and 2017 Women in the Law Award from the Wisconsin Law Journal.

“I am thrilled to join the GMR team, bring my expertise and experience to a new industry and actuate a childhood dream,” said DeVona. “I look forward to working with the global agency to learn the business and offer collaboration and guidance across all areas of GMR and OEG.”

Outside of work, DeVona is active in a number of professional affiliations and civic activities, including United Way, Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy, TEMPO Milwaukee, Greater New Birth Church and numerous others.
