GMR Charlotte Named 2015 Top Workplace

Based on team feedback, award highlights culture and community.

A great agency culture is impossible to manufacture—which is why we’re so proud of our Charlotte, NC, office for earning distinction as a 2015 Top Workplace this week. The award was given by the Charlotte Observer and based solely on employee feedback.

Each of our global offices embodies the GMR “work hard, play hard” motto in a different way, and perhaps none with as much heart as Charlotte. This is an office with a robust, grassroots-driven culture that builds community both inside and outside the office walls.

Committees dedicated to events, health & wellness, professional development, and charitable outreach host dozens of activities a year—from speakers, networking breakfasts, and book clubs to running-and-beer meetups, farmers market outings, and a very successful “Freshman 15” program for new hires.

“One of our cultural cornerstones, and maybe my favorite, is Casual For a Cause,” said Cameron Wagner, Senior Vice President of Client Management and head of GMR Charlotte.

Each month, CFAC focuses on a different local nonprofit, usually nominated by an employee with a personal relationship to the cause. Employees share their stories, and rally around the cause to donate time, goods, or financial support in exchange for the privilege of ‘dressing down’ one week a month.

But “cause” far outweighs “casual” as a motivating factor. “Even as our official dress code relaxes with time, Casual For a Cause participation is just keeps growing,” noted Wagner. “It’s nearly doubled over the last two years. This team’s heart is in the right place.”

Congratulations, GMR Charlotte, on the much deserved recognition.
